Ping Spikes (500ms +) After 6:30 pm AEDT

Hey, i've just moved house and after like 4 weeks finally setup my pc, and i've noticed that after 6:30 roundabouts i get ping spikes. My ISP is Telstra, and im using fibre optic (nbn).

If someone could help me locate the source of the problem that'd be much appreciated.

Hello there

Are those spikes on wireless or ethernet cable? If wireless I suspect either the router or the wireless adapter.

what software did you use record the ping?

try then with a cable directly in the router, see if the ping spikes perisist.

I cant test that atm, as i dont have a cable and its too late here to go buy one. Hypothetically if it worked, i couldnt run an ethernet cable because im too far, would a powerline adapter produce similar results??

you could also test the wireless signal with a wifi analyzer on your smart phone. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.farproc.wifi.analyzer this one for example and next to your pc check your signal strength.

If your router is dualbanded, meaning 2,4 ghz and 5 ghz you might have more luck when far away on the 2,4 bandwidth. and also see if there are alot on the same channel as you. if so change it to one that isnt as much used,

On a PC download the free version on inSSider, it will perform the same function as the wifi analyser, if you have the misfortune of having an Apple smartphone. As stated above, try using the 5Ghz band as you have more available channels.
