Why do we still use batteries on Motherboards ?

if it were just the settings that would do.
there is also a Real Time Clock. an actual clock running on the motherboard and that clock needs a battery. this prevent you needing to manually set the clock everytime the system shuts down or loses power. IDK if your old enough to remember the VCR or microwave flashing 12:00 ad infinitum when the power would go out. that little silver battery saves you a lot of time.
