Hello, so lately i've been seriously considering an upgrade from my current rig which i will list at the bottom of my post. I haven't been having too many fps problems in games except mostly games that are particularly cpu intensive like AC Origins, sometimes even World of Warcraft in some areas. Certain new titles run just fine however with some settings lowered by one notch like Shadow of War and Wolfenstein the New Colossus (setting image streaming from ultra to very high did the trick for Wolfenstein. My problem now however is that i've been getting extremely mixed messages from some people saying that I only have to upgrade the cpu/mobo/ram while other say that I only have to upgrade the GPU or even both the GPU/CPU/motherboard/ram which I most likely can not afford. If i'm going to upgrade the CPU/Mobo/ram then i'm only interested in getting the i7 8700k which seems like the best way to go if I want to see a big increase in performance over what i have now. Problem is I also don't know whether I should shell out more money on the ram and motherboard or not since i'm afraid if I do i may regret it later. What do you guys think, what should I upgrade first? should I even upgrade at all? is there a way to upgrade into an i7 8700k with cheaper mobo or ram that I won't regret buying later and won't force me to shell out nearly $900 total?

My current rig:
i7 3770k @4.2ghz
Corsair Hydro H70 watercooling
EVGA gtx 980 SC
16gb DDR3 ram
MSI Z77A GD65 motherboard
Corsair 850w PSU
SSD

your having issues of FPS with your 3770K and 980SC.. hum.. I have a 970 with a 4790k which is pretty equivalent system and I have no problems running any games, never mind having issues with the old games like WoW. I think you need to analyze the issues.

if you want an upgrade got for it get the 87xx series CPU/Mobo Ram and see your graphics cards and new combo give you better fps.

I would have you run HWINFO and analyze if your FPS issues could very well be simple overheating and your getting thermal throttling ? before making any decisions, a 980 runs as strong as a 1080

Well as I said I don't have too many fps issues in most games (Aside from AC Origins which runs pretty badly at 40-60fps in cities and 60fps+ outside) and the fps problems I get in WoW is only in certain areas at max settings.Like you said I always check if there is any overheating or throttling and I'm 100% positive that I don't get any. I keep RealTemp on along with MSI Afterburner and HWmonitor. I'm just worried that every game that comes out from now on is going to give me as much trouble as AC Origins.
