I have a Yamaha receiver. All components, including TV and cable box, are connected to it via HDMI cables. The sound is great, but sometimes my wife doesn't want to listen through the surround sound speakers. Is there an easy way to bypass the receiver so that she can listen to the TV's speakers?

Solution
Have you tried just muting the sound on the receiver, and controlling the TV sound? I have Onkyo receiver, and it passes audio thru HDMI over to the TV. There might be an option in your Yamaha' setup to allow for that.

On My Yamaha the remote has a button called music, if you press it until the amp says 2 channel stereo then that disables the surround, but keeps the front 2 and sub. however is you want to disable the who think just don't turn on the amp and the sound should now come out the speakers.
