SATA port order? Adding another ssd.

My system currently has 1 ssd and 1 hdd installed into ports 5 and 6. This is because of the motherboard and case sizing lining up so that I cant plug in the L shaped SATA cables into 0 and 1.
So I am adding another SSD right now and wondering what port I should use? I have 3-4 available.
Also for the sake of order, if I were to buy flat ended SATA cables can I switch ports? I know the drives have set there ID to those ports but can that be changed easily?

Solution

I would leave the existing drives where they are, and plug the new one into one of the other ports.
Assuming, of course, that...

It's not a good idea to switch ports and can often lead to delayed startups. If you're on Windwos 10, it might be a bad thing. However since you've asked, ideally the SATA device's should always be like so:
Port 0 - first port - SSD/OS drive
Port 1 - second port - Storage or other SSD
and so and so forth so if anything you're going the reverse order.

What's the make and model of your case and ofc the motherboard?

-So unplugging and switching them won't affect the OS at all?

-Right now I have my boot drive on port 5 and storage on 6. The new ssd will be strictly to hold games; so should I just plug it into 4? Or swap the boot drive to 4 and put the gaming ssd on 5?

-Lastly, since you can just arrange the boot order in the BIOS doesn't that take precedence over where they are physically plugged in?

Assuming, of course, that they are native Intel ports, and not Asmedia. Even though the Asmedia says SATA III, those ports tend to run slower than a native Intel port.
So any SSD drives go in an Intel port, other drive types (HDD or DVD) doesn't matter.

The Case is the Phantek Eclipse P400s and the mother board is an MSI Mortar Z270M / B250M

I can't seem to find if they are Intel ports for certain, but the manual is chock full of Intel this and optimised Intel that, so maybe its's safe to assume. All it says is they are all SATA 6Gb/s ports.

Should I bother arranging anything in the BIOS? Or am I all set?

Thanks to the both of you for your help.
