i need wifi / cable modem help plz

i have bought a Arris SB6190 to save some money instead of paying a rental fee..i have connected a belkin N750 F9K1103 v1 and im only getting 2-3mbs on wifi?? is there anything i can do to fix this? when i had the cable co. , cable modem hooked up i was getting 20-30mbs on wifi..can someone help me here or do i need a better wifi router,if so what would you recommend? the cable co. modem is a technicolor TC8717T and my wired connection from my arris to a pc is 100mbs (thats my cap) and works fine..just the other channels im using are pretty dam slow..any help thx vm

If the download speeds are fine aside from the WiFi, it should not be an issue with the cable modem. Try another router.

the firmware is up to date and im only 1 room away..i have even tried it on my laptop in the same room and got same result
do you think i need to go into the arris cable modem to tweek it in any way? or could it just be a wifi belkin router problem?
