Ryzen 7 1700X VS i5 7600k (yet another one)

Hey, new to Tom's Hardware. Point me in the right direction if I've posted in the wrong area or if this particular question has been answered before a million times. I really need help deciding this.

So I am currently presented a conundrum. I just built my new budget PC around 6 months ago. My main usage is like many others. I mostly game on a dual monitor setup for easy Discord and internet access. My most played lineup is currently ARMA 3, Destiny 2, Rainbow Six Siege, CSGO, Elite Dangerous, and Battlefield 1. I am looking forward to getting Final Fantasy XV and a few other titles next year. My current setup is as follows:

Pentium G4600
G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 8GB 2400
GTX 1060 6gb - Zotac amp! edition
ASRock B250M-HDV
650 watt PSU

As a late birthday present I received a Ryzen 7 1700X. Seeing as the cpu doesn't match my motherboard I've been curious whether or not I should sell it (for 200 USD) and upgrade to an i5-7600k with the rest of this current setup or keep the Ryzen and get a beefier motherboard, case another 8gb stick of ram, and possibly watercooling.

The Ryzen build would look something like this:

Ryzen 7 1700x probably OC'd
G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 8GB x 2 2400
GTX 1060 6GB - Zotac amp! edition
ASUS ROG STRIX X370-F GAMING (unless you can point me to something better. ASUS is love ASUS is life)
650 watt PSU

My biggest question is what would be more effective in the long haul now that there's some better optimization for the Ryzen processors?

Edit: Forgot to specify I'd upgrade ram as well.
Edit 2: Specified what the Ryzen build would look like as well.

Thanks for the response! That being said, I do plan to upgrade the 1060 when it feels like it's weighing down on my performance. Would an OC to 3.9 still be manageable with a Hyper 212 EVO? Or would you recommend a closed loop water cooler?
