First time builder, was hoping some of you more seasoned folk could look over this mid-high range gaming build for me :)
Does everything seem in order? Am I overspending in areas where I could cut down? Do I need fans?

Also, any good recommendations of a monitor? G-sync is not a necessity, 144hz might be nice but I'll be coming from something dreadful so I'm sure 60hz would be fine. Is it worth going 1440p with the GTX 1060 or just stick with 1080p?
Thanks a lot!

1060 6gb -> 1080p 60 Hz is good match.
960 M2 ssd is not needed, any cheaper brand ssd is fine, you won't notice any diff
psu is very good, but 500+ good quality should be good enough for your rig.
No sound card is needed, try HDAudio on MB first.
There are better Z370 MB, for that pricing range, Gigabyte ultra gaming * or Asrock extreme 4 are good choices.

Thanks for your reply! Could you briefly explain why those mobos are better? I read that the 960 had dramatic improvements in r/w speeds over, say, the 850 EVO, but if you reckon the difference isn't substantial and won't be useful for future games/software then I'll downgrade :)

For game loading, no obvious benefit, but for rendering, it is a different story. You can spend on 960 if you want, could be useful later on, but for gaming, no obvious benefits.

If you like Z370 gaming plus, you are fine. Just toss some alternatives there, still waiting on more reviews on Z370 MBs.

Fault of mine for not mentioning it, but I do a bit of Premiere work here and there so rendering does come into the picture somewhat, and I dabble in Unreal Engine environment creation but I suppose other components matter more there.

Yes, the lack of direct quality comparisons between Z370 mobos is what's made the decision a tricky one. I was originally looking at the Asrock Pro4 and then the MSI above, but I'll investigate the alternatives you gave.
Thanks again!

I think I'll stick to with the 8600k :) One final thing, do I need extra fans in this or will the cryorig H7 do the job?
