Hello,

I have an alienware x51 R2 with the following specs

CPU :Intel® Core™ i5-4460 (Quad Core, 6MB Cache, up to 3.4 GHz w/ Turbo Boost)
RAM : 8Gb (2x4 Gb DIMMS)
HD : 1x 3.5" SATA I/II/III Hard Drive
GPU : NVIDIA GTX 745
PSU : Alienware™ 240 Watt Power Supply (Standard)
Motherboard : Mini-ITX Motherboard

Recently I decided to upgrade my gpu to the GeForce GTX 1050 AERO ITX 2G OC...

The problem is that the card was overheating in games and cause fps drops… For example after 10 min of gaming the temps went up to 95 C. I tried everything I removed the optical drive for better airflow, fix the curves for both gpu and the pc, and even boot the pc with side panel open nothing changed… After that I turned V sync on and the temps were better under 90 C for 20 mins but after that went to 90+

The card is not faulted because I tried it with an other Same card and nothing changed. It is also clear from dust because I cleaned the fans my self when I installed the card…

The cards temp on idle are pretty good 33-40C

Could it be the low wattage psu that causes the problem?

If not is there anything that I can do?

Thank you

Solution
Nvidia has the minimum as 300 but a 400 is a better choice. But yeah your PSU is too low, and it being a mass market machine chances are the PSU isnt a very good one either.
