When the system starts up, do any of the fans begin to turn, do any lights inside the case (on the motherboard or otherwise) turn on? It seems that either your computer isn't getting enough power (it should without the GPU), or something was damaged when the card was put in and the system powered up.

The lights is just if your motherboard has a light on it indicating it is receiving power, but I'm not seeing any indication of LEDs on your motherboard. So you may not see any lights. The fact that the fans turn on says that there is power flowing to the system.
