My friend has an old hp pc 9 years old, yesterday he turned it on and it went right back off, it doesn't stay on long enough to even boot to the bios,it just comes on and goes right back off after 2 second, the fans come on but then the system just shuts down, it's had no issues for 9 years until yesterday,Could it be the power supply? possibly the cpu fan? any help greatly appreciated thanks.

As the previous poster says, it could be any one of a number of things.

In the absence of any diagnostic feedback from the PC or it's motherboard, it'll have to be a case of replacing the most obvious suspect components, I would start by replacing the PSU judging by the symptom you have described.

(9 years is a good age for even a quality PSU to last, let alone a basic factory-fitted HP one).

Don't go throwing too much money at it though if a new PSU doesn't fix it, not on a 9 year old PC, in fact I'd baulk at spending any money at all on it but if you want to try a new PSU it's your call.

I'd rather use that money towards getting a new PC and retiring that old one - RIP :(
