Ok so in 2015 I bought my Alienware X51 R2 with the i7 4770, GTX 745 and 8GB of RAM. I am looking to upgrade my 745 to a GTX 1060 6GB but I don’t know if my pc will provide enough power for it. I think I have the 240W power supply but I’m not sure because there’s just “100-240V~3.5A 50-60Hz”. I would probably be getting the founders edition of the card because it is the right size but I don’t know if my X51 could provide it enough power?

Ok so what does that mean? Thing is I'm in canada so if I have to buy the 330W power supply its like $200 so if I don't have to i really don't want to buy it

Proprietary means it's a special design made just for that computer. So you can't just buy a standard power supply to replace it. This is one of the big problems with buying pre-built computers, they can be tricky to upgrade.

In your case you are better off buying a videocard that can work with your current power supply, even if the card is less powerful than a 1060. A GT 1030 would work. It is much less powerful, however it is far better than your 745, so you'd be gaining a lot of performance. Take a look on Youtube at 1030 benchmark videos and see if it's enough.

edit: Looking at documentation, it says you could use up to a 75W videocard with the 240W power supply. That means you could opt for a 1050 Ti, one of the models that doesn't require a 6 pin pci-ex connector.

Thanks for the help. I think what I am going to do is buy the 330W power supply that dell makes that is compatible with my PC (from what I know), and get the 1060 6GB. I have found one of the 330W power supplies for under $100 on ebay so I think that should be good.
