I bought an Asus rog g20aj 2 years ago. Recently i have been having issues with my gpu so I purchased a gtx 750 ti. It was an upgrade from 750 to 750 ti. Now when I run it says it isn't connected and I'm lost

Hold on, please stick with me. So I am using the 180W adapter that came with the system upon purchase. Now when I attempt to boot to desktop I cannot even get to BIOS as it displays the "Please plug GPU into PCI-e slot" yada yada. I thought maybe I should get the 230w adapter, but your idea could save me precious dollars. What are the jumpers? Why am I moving them? What dualbricks?

Would it be best advised to go ahead and get the 230w adapter as well? I do not currently use another adapter however is that what you mean by dual brick?

The recommended power supply for a 750ti is 300w so it cannot be powered by a 180w hands down. Depending on the brand, amps on voltage rails and what else is using power in your system you can get some lower end psus to work. Such as a 250w, but it is a risk.

Simply you need a power supply upgrade as that is likely the issue

The shipped gpu(that I am still using to currently) that came with the system and has been ran into the dirt from heavy use is a GTX 750. Which has the same power needs. That is assuming that the geforce spec page isnt lying.

Well it does have the 5watt power differential however the minimum power requirements are the same.

Maybe the case that it works but under full load I am sure there is going to be some problems occur, such as throttling due to low power

So you are suggesting that the 750 is being throttled by the current power? As the 750 has had no issues until its breaking, however the 750ti doesnt even let me boot.

it is still entirely possible it is the power supply, the card if made by a different brand could use more power.

So I did get 1 thing wrong. My PC is using a 230w power adapter, not the 180w. After checking through some ASUS forum posts, it seems that they have a seperate port for another power adapter, so 230w for the rest of the PC and then you would use the 180w for the graphics card itself. Assuming my current setup is running fine(GPU included) on the 230w adapter, would buying the 180w adapter, plugging that into the gpu power only port, changing the jumpers on the MOBO, etc, would that give enough power to my GPU for it to function?

750ti gous tend to get their power from the pcb so best bet is to try get a power supply with a higher capacity to start with. if it is an oem board you may be sunk
