I ordered this item tonight. Have 921$ in store credit so only costed me 200+$

I have a feeling this computer comes with the 460 watt power supply, Dell wants 200$+ for the 860 watt version.

I am having very little luck researching if a aftermarket power supply will work in these units dell is known for making things hard to replace.

Any information would be great. Would like to upgrade the power-supply and install another card.

I can't find the thread I responded to but the thread had the exact same request. The thing is the rear of the case looks like it can accept an aftermarket ATX PSU but the diagnostics LED and that one internal proprietary connector for LED's throws a lot of things up in the air.

For reference,

so the connectors are all standard and the rear

like I said looks like it can accept an aftermarket PSU just that the diagnostic LED rigged PSU makes me cringe to think that it might be Dell OptiPlex in hiding.

FYI, regarding that previous thread, that...

Generally, Dell products have standard Motherboard power, EPS, and PCI-E connections. Another power supply should work fine, I've replaced the PSU on a Dell computer before.

That being said, Dell wouldn't put a PSU that couldn't handle the components in the unit. At stock settings, it's likely not going to break on you. The second you overclock anything, it becomes questionable however. Up to you.

Just saying that I doubt you'd have many compatibility issues until you try to move the motherboard outside the case. Basically turns into a whole different story at that point.

FYI, regarding that previous thread, that PSU is incapable of powering your entire rig for continued gaming sessions since the PSU(if it's 450W variant) overheats in a short space of time. Part of that is owed to the PSU needing to be at least 550W.

BTW, how's it going for you Cia?! Long time!

Great long time no see good sir. As you know I have dabbled in this before. Allot of the Alienware desktops have the power supply led also and I was able to install new psu's into them with no issues. Since no one has tried it yet I will just try it doesn't cost me a penny to try a power supply I have laying around.

As for the motherboard picture it is similar but mine has 2 pci-e slots.

Lets just hope that a new power-supply can be installed because I never run anything under 850--- Personal preference.

Ah, good to hear man!

Hmmm, I got what I could find off the www but Dell does state that the Dell Inspiron 5675 comes with that motherboard, maybe there are a number of SKU's out there...? If it's all in the cause of science :D then by all means, keep us posted!

I just don't think that 200USD for a PSU sourced for half that price is a good idea for Dell to be doing.

I guess if you are unable to make money on your computers you have to make money on the parts. 200$ for a 850 watt psu that puts out 600 watts lol.... Joke.

I have a feeling that it's going to work. As stupid as it sounds all of the 5675's have 2 pci-e x16 slots lol.

Weird they show that motherboard.

I have a feeling it'll work as well. I've seen Crucial list specs of a unit that don't add up, Dell listing boards specs that don't support it at all and Apple asking for a kidney for their support...so yeah, the world keeps revolving.

Question for you. If you were doing this what watt psu would you put in this system. In the end it will be running 2 HDD 1 SSD, AIO Cooler and 2 rx 580's

I only buy good psu's so 650? 750? 850? or put my 1600 watt evga in it for the fun of it lolll.

I'd pick out an 850W Platinum rated PSU that is of good build. Higher would be better for headroom's sake but, then again, I'm an advocate of lower powered, oomph filled system's ;) Single most powerful card powered off an SFU PSU in an itx chassis. * Spoiler Compact Splash being one such projects.

Well as ghetto as it sounds the desktop comes monday. The only PSU I have in stock is 1600 watts for a bench. I will try that to see if it boots no issues etc.

Give me a link for a few you recommend. I have been out of the game for over a year. and to be honest my luck with EVGA over the last few years has been disappointing.

I will keep you updated for sure. If you do not hear from me by Wednesday of next week shoot me a pm I will have it done by then.

After speaking with some friends that work on dells they advised me it should work. But I do not want people to waste there money until I can confirm. Worst case I can make this work by tricking the motherboard with the old power-supply harness and a resistor.

I would be grateful if you could take the side panel off yours send me a photo of the side of the power supply and of the internals.

Also is the rear fan 120mm?

I am a bit lost. I am being told the rear exhaust is 92mm lol???? why dell why.....

But i see dell does offer a liquid cooling kit for it for 132$ bit pricey I fail to see them putting a 92mm AIO cooler in this. Can anyone shed some light.

W4D9W is the part number for the kit but there is no photos online.

Well, I think a aftermarket power supply will work if you can find one that has the cable up and down instead of side to side on the back. I can confirm that it will boot with a new power supply but you will have to modify the back of the case

Anyone have any updates on whether an aftermarket PSU is compatible with the Inspiron 5675? I just bought one with a 1700X & RX 570 and am waiting for it to arrive. However, I know the stock 460W PSU is measly and am looking to change it once I get the system. The only thing is I am not sure which PSU would be compatible. Doing my research, it sounds like I only have 2 choices:

1) Purchase the Dell OEM 850W Modular PSU, and it should be okay without any issues since the PSU was designed to fit in the case. This will provide some ample increase in power over the 460W, or

2) Purchase an aftermarket PSU and try to custom fit the PSU into the case so the back plug/on & off switch are exposed. This will require some cutting/modifications. If I go with this option, what about the issue with wiring for the diagnostic LEDs and so forth that I read about?

I had a evga 1000 watt hooked up in this pc for a moment it booted with no errors. Please note you will have to dremel plastic on the back to get the plug to fit.

I do have to add there is no special wiring on the motherboard for the led light on the stock power supply. So that is null and void, I don't know what all these people keep bringing it up. The alienware r6 has the same power supply plug and play a aftermarket one with no issues.

Is there a way of doing it without modifying the case?

Just got the alienware Dell PSU 850W swapped the 460 W that the Dell 5675 came with. System is more stable had some overheating issues and black screen once in a while with the old 460W. This new PSU's fan is facing down, there is a little space for air flow but so far PSU is not hot. Do you think it is okay to have the PSU's fan facing down ? There are some holes on the metal panel where it sits and then the plastic PC case. It seems it can pull the air only from around the plastic chassis. Space between the PSU fan and PC case is no more than 1 cm.

Flipping the PSU around with fan up would not allow me to plug the PCU in. I would need to cut and modify the back panel
Any ideas as far as PSU installed with fan on a bottom of the case? Worried about air flow but this is the PSU Dell recommends to upgrade to.

Thank you for any advise.

Wouldn't something like the Cooler Master - 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply work considering the power switch is about the plug? Also, might be a stupid question but will fully modular psu's be good?

I found a compatible power supply on Amazon.com that will fit the Dell 5675. The only thing that didn't fit was 1 out of the 4 screws which is not a problem. The power plug is also in the correct position on the left as the old 460watt PSU. Do yourself a favor and buy the following https://www.amazon.com/SilverStone-Technology-Strider-P...

Do not buy Dell's crappy 850watt power supply for an outrageous 250 bucks. You can find Dell's upgrade on Ebay for a reasonable price but non of them come with the cables (wiring harness) so even if you do buy the unit its useless. I hope this solves everyones PSU woes =P

I read this thread with much interest but I have one question. My 5675 has a dvd burner in it that has a strange power connector, it sort of looks like a half sized sata power connector not much bigger than the sata data cable connector. Are their adapters available for this? I would like to keep my case the way it is just change to a bigger power supply so that eventually i might be able to run crossfire with two cards. I could just ditch the burner but when it's cute and while i have a nice blue ray external burner if i don't need that why mess with cables and plugging it in etc. when i can just push a button and use this one. so what is the proper name for this mini sata power connector and where can you get adapters so it can be used with a product besides dells power supply?
