I currently have
CPU : i3 2120 3.3ghz
RAM : 2x4GB @ 1333mHz
Motherboard : Gigabyte H61M-DS2
GPU : Asus Turbo 1060 6GB

I want to upgrade my pc this blackfriday and im currently looking for these parts :
CPU : i7 7700k
RAM : G.Skill Ripjaws DDR4 8GB @ 2400mHz

I'm confused about which motherboard to get. I'm on a tight budget so please suggest a motherboard.
Also i read that if i get GIGABYTE GA-H110M-A it'll support my new processor but i'll have to update the bios with a kaby lake processor. i'm kind of new to this so please ELI5
I'm also open to suggestions for other CPU/rams

Solution
To be honest I don't know what that means but I suspect it is just an Asrock naming convention. I do know that board however, it is a solid board. I have one and coincidentally have used that exact RAM and an r5 1600 and it works great.

I recommend something like this:
PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel - Core i5-8400 2.8GHz 6-Core Processor ($199.89 @ B&H)
Motherboard: Gigabyte - Z370 HD3 (rev. 1.0) ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($111.49 @ SuperBiiz)
Total: $311.38

The 6 physical cores of the new i5s make it keep up with the last gen i7 and it is a great gaming CPU. Pair it with your ddr4 choice. It would be an even better value if they had released the cheaper h370 or b360 motherboards but those won't be out until after the new year. The 8600k would be an absolute beast but right now availability is a huge problem and price gouging.

Thanks for the quick reply. I read that 8400 can have a maximum speed of 2666 ram. What, according to you, would be better for the future since i won't be buying new parts for quite some time. Can i overclock the i5? if so, which motherboard should i get?
OR
ryzen 1600x since they almost cost the same but it has 12 threads which could be helpful in the future

The 1600 would be a great CPU too unless you find the 1600x at the same price. What resolution and refresh rate is your monitor? The 8400 would be better for faster refresh rates and it has an advantage in IPC. I have a 1600 and it over clocks way better than my 1700x.

Thanks again You've been a great help so far, i was really confused and didn't even know about i5 8th gen cpus until you mentioned them.
My monitor's 1920x1080 @ 60Hz. I'm new to overclocking though. Is it simple? how frequently and for how long can i use it?
Also, which motherboard and ram should i get for R5 1600?

Also can i expect the prices of i5 8400 or r5 1600 to fall on black friday?
I'm from India and having my friend bring them here from my first two salaries.

Overclocking is pretty simple, there are a bunch of Ryzen overclocking guides if you do a google search. With a motherboard with adequate vrms and cooling you should be able to run an overclock as long as you want, you just have to watch voltages and temps. I have my overclocked settings saved to profiles so when I want something done quickly like rendering a video, I load up the profile in the Ryzen master software which is the AMD overclocking utility. I wouldn't be surprised if the 1600 was on sale but the 8400 I seriously doubt because it just came out. I made a list of good components based on the prices on India pcpartpicker but keep in mind you want 3000-3200Mhz RAM and you could swap out the x370 motherboard for a cheaper b350 but I picked the x370 because of it's price relative to the other choices and the x370 boards have a better power delivery system.

One last question,
I've seen some motherboards with promontry in their name and are a bit cheaper than other boards.
Can you please tell me what it means and will it be compatible with r5 1600?
Also, some rams have a platform mentioned in their name, like this one for example "https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231975&cm_re=ddr4-_-20-231-975-_-Product)" it says Intel Z170 Platform will it work with the
ASRock AB350M Pro4 AM4 AMD Promontory B350 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard?
thanks in advance

No problem. It was funny that you picked the same RAM as I used. It's actually in my 1700x build now, I gifted the 1600 and ab350m pro4 to my niece because her laptop broke. Just be sure to update to the newest bios by downloading it to a flash drive and doing it from within the bios because any other way is a lot more risky. When you get ready to overclock if you need help just start a new topic and private message me. I got mine to boot at 4 ghz but it wasn't stable I settled for 3.8 at 1.35v which is average but good. Best of luck.
