GPU memory clock maxing out causing crash.

My graphics card is not OC. But whenever i open a game or watch a video the memory clock of the card gets maxed up and causes the screen to crash. I still hear the audio so i assume the pc is working. Im using a GTX 1060 3GB. Could this be because im using only a DDR3 2GB ram.

Solution
I think the opposite is happening, a stall happens due to the ram, this then drops the gpu usage to 0, the power usage to 0 and the memory speed drops as the loads comes off, the stall then becomes a crash

When i check the hardware monitor, im using EVGA precisionX it displays as below'

The memory clock gets maxed and the power drops to zero. I have tested this using two psu and this issue persists

What game(s) are you trying to play? 2GB of ram is WAY too little for this system or playing any recent game, Windows 10 recommends a minimum of 4 just to run that. I think its likely less a GPU issue and more a system can't handle running the game issue.

EDIT: Looking at the temps you posted they are excessive as well, but the fact you're running monitoring software on 2gb of ram, trying to run a game, makes me suspicious that its even working right.

I've no problem with those memory clocks, they are about right, 8000/2 is normal. Those temps are a massive concern however.

Overall it appears you have two problems, a shortage in system ram that will best case cause a significant performance decrease, and a GPU that is way too hot. I'd therefore also question your cpu temp

I've tested it with my case open with an external fan as well. It did little to help. With the memory clock temps rises and power goes down to 0 causing the screen to crash. This trend has repeated several times. But ill upgrade the ram to 6GB to see if it helps

So ill try if increasing the RAM with fix this issue today. Hopefully it will.

I would say there is a really good chance of it fixing the issue. Honestly you need 8gb of ram to game these days.

Sorry guys for the late update. Took some time for the order to get delivered. But yeah you were right 13thmonkey. Upgrading the RAM fixed this issue. Still need to increase it more i think cause the same thing happens when the GPU is running at 100%. So i had to underclock it to 70%.
