Is it worth the upgrade? 8GB RAM 2017-18?

I have a Ryzen 1500X in my system, and 1x8GB DDR4 2400MHz. I got it for £60 when ram prices were not too bad. I want to upgrade this as Ryzen benefits from both dual channel memory, and higher memory clock speeds. I can sell the ram i have to somebody for £60. I am looking at getting 2x4GB 3000MHz for £100. Is this performance increase worth £40? 16gb would be ideal as i use my system for gaming, and with programs in the background, 8gb almost gets used up completely, i have seen usage into the high 7gb range, and in the future i can see games exceeding this 8gb. Should i do this for the performance increase, or is it not worth it and should i wait until i can get 16gb for "future proofing"? Will i see a large performance increase, or will it feel exactly the same in just gaming, as that is the most intensive task my PC does.

Solution
i went from 8 to 16 on my gaming rig and it made a huge difference esp when playing games like ark. i found myself running out of ram all the time esp when I was on for a long time.
You'll see more of a difference from the increased RAM speed but yes RAM runs best in dual channel mode. All in all though it's not a night and day difference so don't expect to suddenly get 20 more FPS in a game or anything like that.

16 GB has become the new recommended RAM amount but 8 GB still works just fine. I'd say if you think whatever you buy is what you'll be stuck with for the next 5 years then yes buy as big as you can because programs are just going to keep eating more and more RAM.

It's the 600MHz boost in clock speed with a ryzen CPU

So, worth it (£40) or not? The plan was to sell it to a friend, as RAM prices are ridiculous right now, and i thought it gives me a good opportunity to upgrade ram as i did not get the ideal ram for Ryzen, and i get my money back from the current ram i have.
