Motherboard not recognising my second monitor

The second monitor works as I connected it to my GPU with an adaptor and it showed everything as a monitor should. My GPU only has one port (DVI), and my motherboard has a VGA port; my main monitor uses that DVI (it also has a VGA port; when I connected it to the VGA port - using the cable from the second monitor - it didn't get recognised), whereas my second monitor only has a VGA port. I've also tried going into Nvidia's control panel and 'rigorous display detection' it and nothing was found, even with the TV detection. When I went to the BIOS I could not change anything to do with the integrated graphics at all.

How can I solve this problem? I've kinda given up searching for dissimilar results after 2 hours now.

I have a GTX 960 GPU, MSI-7721 motherboard, and an HP w1097s monitor (the one I'm trying to dual with).

Yes; I'm plugging my HP monitor to the motherboard through a VGA cable (the only port the the monitor has). When I plugged it into an DVI adapter and then into the graphics card it worked. Also, I plugged in my main monitor to the motherboard (using the HP's cable, as it has a VGA and a DVI port) and it didn't get detected.

I only have two monitor ports so I won't be able to connect both to the GPU.
