Ever since the release of the Creator's Fall Update, day after day, problems started to emerge until I couldn't receive any updates. This is the exact problem I am having along with others.

http://troubleshooter.xyz/wiki/fix-we-couldnt-complete-the-updates-undoing-changes/

I cannot reinstall Windows 10 due to the fact that it gives me an failure error every time. I used System Restore and that failed also. Ran CHDSK/R - this lasted for 2 days, stuck at 25% until it hit 100% Sill I am facing the same problem Windows cannot update & Potential Windows Database Error upon running the Troubleshooter.

Edit: I haven't tried Method (e) due to the fact that reinstalling Windows 10 failed the first time. I don't wish to attempt this, for I fear that I'll be totally screwed. If anyone can help, it would be very much appreciated.

Operating System: Windows 10 Home 64-bit

Sounds to me like it's time to take it into a PC shop and have them look at it.

I was thinking after the 1st few posts that you really had something else going on with it hardware wise.

I don't think Windows was ever really the problem.

Laptops can be interesting to deal with.

Ran CHKDSK again. Don't know how many times I've ran this - but it keeps saying "Windows has scanned the file system and found no problems." Running CHKDSK /R was just an option hopefully to remedy this situation.

How do I check my internal HDD? Looked in device manager under "Disk Drives" & the "Device is working properly."

What hard drive do you have?

Model Number?

CHKDSK doesn't mean anything, I currently have a bad HD that passed CHKDSK. It failed the HD tests from the Manufacturer, that's all tests except SMART test.

But it passed CHKDSK. ;)

And it still works, shows up in device Manager etc, etc...

YOU need to tell us what HD it is so we can tell you what software to download so you can check the drive.

Ah. It's a WDC WD7500BPKX-60HPJT0 (Western Digital.)

Download Data Lifeguard.

https://support.wdc.com/downloads.aspx?p=171&lang=en&i

And run the tests.

Run Quick Test and Extended Test.

Thank you very much for this information, Jankerson. I'm going for extended test and I will notify the results in a few hours. Thanks again!

Alright, ran the Extended Test.

SMART Status: PASS
Test Result: PASS

Also noticed on my C: Drive I have a free space of 24.48GB. I'm really hoping this is the culprit. If it is, I'm also hoping that if I free space, I can finally install those pending updates and play my game without a hard lock on my system.

Try Windows update.

Sigh...I have 73.1GB on C: Drive so far and I get the same result..I'll try releasing 30 more GB.

Update: (11/22/17) 3:07am

I've been at this for an additional 2 days now. Finally deleted some files and games that I usually don't play or need, and I ended up with a total of 130GB of free space available.

Rinsed and repeat previous tasks, according to the website, without Method (e) once again. Ran the update troubleshooter numerous times - states that it's fixed, then once I try to run updates it always fails. Ran the troubleshooter again, it says it failed.

It's a constant cycle of "Windows potential database error" fixes and errors, which nothing is fixed in conclusion. The only thing new I discovered, is that I received a message in red text of an error (0x8024a11a) which I haven't seen before previously throughout the weeks of attempted remedy. Of course all my other 50 pending updates have the error (0x800703f1).

I absolutely have no idea what to do at this point. I am currently running the Data Lifeguard the 3rd time hopefully to find errors? Will I end up having to replace my HDD even though the Lifeguard program states I have no errors?

Okay, I downloaded the tool onto my desktop..

Is there a particular point during the installation when deleting the partition? Sorry if this seems like a silly question. Just don't want to muck things up.

Yeah, when it gets to the point you can see the hard drives, delete the partitions and create a new one and then install Windows on that one.

Windows 10 installation failed. I had hoped that this tool was updated from Microsoft as I had attempted this numerous times starting Oct. 18. I tried both "Update this PC" and running it from a USB. It fails every time.

I also can't delete volume from disk management as it's greyed out. Windows drive C:

What do you mean it fails exactly?

When you boot the PC from the USB what does it do exactly?

You aren't doing an upgrade, it's a clean install.

Video here with directions.

Ah, ok. It should auto-boot or certain keys pressed. I was running the setup from the USB...lol I have a Sager Notebook. If it doesn't auto-boot, I'll just have to do some research.

Alright. Figured it out though the BIOS screen, under boot tab. Set the USB for first priority for boot. Windows installation started and gave me two options. "Upgrade" or "Custom".

Before I launch the installation, I have two questions. Would it be wise to use my current Windows 10 backup feature since I can't select "Upgrade" (Keep files)? Once a clean install is finished, where would all my files be placed?

Update...

The nightmare continues...Decided to save up some cash over the past few days to acquire a new external hard drive. Finally purchased one, and decided to backup my files until something odd has happened to my laptop.

The monitor won't turn on...I press the power button with the AC plugged in, the BT wifi icon "blips" for less than a second, along with the cylinder icon for a second, keyboard lights are on, charging/battery icon on, but the monitor doesn't turn on.

One thing I noticed, a slight "pup" noise is heard as the cylinder icon lights up for that second. The laptop then powers down and after 2 seconds it restarts itself with the same behavior, until this time it continues to run as if it's fully functional. I tried the battery removal 30 second power hold trick, but it didn't work.

Before this problem occurred, I was playing Skyrim until I was met with "application has been blocked from accessing graphics hardware" The game obviously crashed with this message, and I heard residual repeated "jittering" noises from the game after it crashed. I wished I hadn't played - due to the fact that my drivers couldn't be updated.

I don't know what to do. It looks like my laptop is completely bricked.

Ah, sorry if I wasn't clear. I ment in the motherboard.

...Well I'm hoping this is the case. Don't want to pay $200-$500.
