Hi
I have just upgraded my dated rig:
•AMD A8 7600 APU
•MSI GTX 750ti OC 2gb
•Gigabyte F2A68HM-HD2 Motherboard
•seagate 500gb HDD
•seagate 160gb HDD
•EVGA 600w 80 plus PSU

I have added a ryzen 3 1200, a gigabyte ga-ab350m-gaming 3 mobo and a gtx 1060. I will be using my Panasonic 50” 4K HDR TV as my monitor.

So my question is: Will I be able to game at 1440p? And if so what sort of frames could I expect?

Thanks

It also depends on what games and at what graphic settings.

I'd say around 45-60 FPS in games on average. Some more demanding games might be just playable at around 30-40 FPS especially open-word games which a bit more demanding on the CPU as well.

With more demanding games you need to really lower some graphic settings if you want to get 60+ FPS. What is that TV's refresh rate at 1440?

I don’t know what the refresh rate is at 1440 in specific, the specs on the website just say-refresh rate: 120hz. It doesn’t actually say for each resolution setting

That's OK. I was thinking many TVs are 60Hz at that resolution or some are even 30Hz at 4K.

If that was the case any refresh rate higher than 60 FPS would have been moot. When cards can output more frames per second than the display can handle there is stuttering and tearing while gaming.

The TV's refresh rate being 120Hz rules that out as I think think you can reach anything higher than 120 FPS with that card at that resolution unless you set all graphic settings to low, maybe.

Ah, I’ve never understood screen tearing really. So as long as I don’t go over 120 fps (which I won’t be with my setup at 1080p and over at high settings on the games I play I don’t think) I won’t get any screen tearing on my TV, because it’s 120hz? Does that mean I can turn v-sync off now because I had it on thinking I needed it on all the time because I was using a TV? Sorry I’m very new to all this so I’m still getting used to it lol

Yes with a 120 Hz refresh rate you don't need to worry. Having vertical sync won't hurt and I think you test with both on and off and see which best suits your graphic card/TV setup.

It's alright to ask, we've all been there at some point.

Great thanks for your help. Just waiting on my ddr4 ram to arrive when it’s back in Stock then I will be putting it all together. For the meantime though I’m just going to put the 1060 in my current build instead of my 750ti coz I’m too impatient! Thanks for the help guys
