First off my hardware:
Asus H61M-K motherboard
PSU: unknown, never shown signs of failure/malfunctioning before
Wifi adapter: Tp-link TL-WN823N
OS: Windows 10

So, I recently got my internet speed upgraded to 120mbps. But after my ISP came to my house and installed the new modem, my ethernet was really slow, like 0.1mbits per second. I decided to buy a wifi adapter instead because i checked my dad's laptop(connected to the same router), he had speeds of 140mbits per second. Now i have it plugged in, installed the drivers that were included on the cd. Now I get a speed of around 10mbits per second. still 10% from what my dad gets on his laptop. And even my phone(Galaxy S6 Edge) gets 70mbits per second. What should I do to improve my speeds on my computer?
Thanks in advance!

The AP is a USB adapter and not the best of antennas.

It might also be picking up interference from other devices or even maybe the neighbors if they are all operating on same channels.

Also maybe there too many physical obstacles between the model/router and the WiFi AP? Too many walls?

On the 2.4 band (I don't think it has 5G) set all your AP and moden/router to use 20 Mhz channels and set them all to different channels and just use channels 1, 6 and 11. Also set both APs to work on 11n mode or 11b/g/n mixed mode, rather than 11b or 11g mode. Also use WPA/WPA2 for encryption.

It might also help to update drivers and firmware for the TP-Link of available.
