GTX 1060 6GB vs 1070 for my needs?

Hello

I'm near the final stages of my PC build and it's all starting to come together, but I keep getting torn between choosing a GTX 1060 6GB or a 1070.

I currently have a 1080p monitor at 60Hz, and I don't plan on buying a new monitor for a while, so I knew that a 1060 would be my go-to card. But I guess there's a little future-proofer inside of me that pulls me over to consider getting a 1070 instead?

if all i'm going to play are games like pubg, skyrim, and the regular/occasional modern AAA game, do you think it would be a bit of a waste if I go for a 1070 instead? maxing out games is relatively important to me currently, but I wouldn't mind dropping the settings down in the late future to maintain 60fps.

if it helps, I'm planning on using an i5 7600k, z270 mobo.

Thanks

Its not huge overkill, You will definitely ensure everything will be perfect forever, but to be honest there is only so much graphical detail that can be displayed at 1080p, and we are at or beyond that point now with a 1060.

Then again, lets say your monitor breaks some day, you'd probably get a better one right? Then a 1070 is a better choice.

Yeah, I've read countless threads saying that people with 1080p 60Hz monitors should just default to a 1060.

but I'm worried that the 1060 may not keep up in the near future? How much of an overkill is getting a 1070 for this type of monitor? Would the money be better spent elsewhere?

Thanks a lot for your help, it was very informative.

In that case, I think I'll just take a GTX 1070 in the meantime, and when I get enough funds, I'll start looking for better monitors so I can make the most of the 1070.

Thanks a lot, mate!
