So my father has this really old Intel gm965 series with 2GB DDR2 ram ,260 watt PSU, 80GB IDE HDD, Pentium 4 3ghz socket 775 LGA 65nm ,has a PCI e slot, running on windows xp.
And i want to make this computer workable for Cs:GO. Is this possible?
If yes ,then please tell me to which CPU and graphics do i have to upgrade it to and also I'll have to upgrade the PSU and HDD. And will it last long?
And also recommend only the cheapest graphics card as i only want to play Cs:Go.

Solution
Only thing not needing an upgrade might be the case and the hard drive (which could still be used for storage)

Depending on the board a Q660 might work on it, but the only thing about the gm965 is related to laptops, so I assume that falls flat.
And PCI as connection is out of the graphics card buissness since the late 90's, though there have been cards later on. But even the fastest PCI cards were mediocre at best on release. There are some quite rare GT 520 for PCI but those are on the far low end of their series and already 6 years old. So even if you would manage to find one of these, they are far away from making the game playable.

In short: There is no way, not even with rare, redicously overpriced items that that system could...

With ddr2 ram it would be pointless to spend any money, even if it is possible, which im not saying it is, it would run VERY slow. And i can promise you NO GPU would bring you benefit with the bottleneck of the maximum supported CPU on that particular motherboard. Is it possible? I would say no, as i doubt it would be playable unless you can shoot people while teleporting and glitching all around the map (If csgo even ran). Im in no way an expert, but from my experience with csgo and the many pc's ive owned (old and new), you would be better off spending that upgrade money on a super cheap budget build. Or perhaps a stronger spec, newer (but still old) HP or Dell prebuilt with an old i3 or i5. Even an i7 if you can find one. Hope this info is somewhat helpful, and id be happy to hear an experts advice to. Good luck OP ;)

Spending any money on this system is a waste. Everything you spend will bring you up to a level that it will still run poorly.

You can go on craigslist or ebay and buy a used system for $200 that will blow it away.

That PC needs a whole new PC.
There is no individual part on that which you could change, without changing everything else.
