I current own a pc which has windows 10 OS on an ssd with all my documents. I have recently acquired a laptop and was wondering if I could trader this ssd back and forth between both device treating it like it was one system. The hardware is different but I was hoping the software can stay the same and I can boot from the ssd on both devices frequently.

No, that simply won't work. The best you can do (as a practical matter) is to access documents from the (desktop's?) PC SSD by the laptop's drive. And even that's a bit awkward. Basically you would have to clone or copy the data from the SSD to another drive and connect that latter drive as a USB external drive to the laptop. Then the laptop's drive would "see" the data on that USBEHD. But there would be no way to boot back & forth between the two systems using the PC's SSD.
