A bit of background... I ran my own project studio, so I an familiar with audio signal chain and routing. I know what can be accomplished with quality hardware and software as far as sending the signal various places to achieve certain results.

Im stepping away from the recording scenario and trying to configure a gaming sim.

The sim has a number of environmental, in game sounds, and two different voice streams. I do not wish to change these or their output assignments. I also run some helper apps which also have voice communications. I'd like to be able to assign these apps so that their auto ends up coming out of speakers other than the main stereo group that the main sim game uses. For example App1 has its audio come from a speaker located say Rear left, and App2 has its audio come from a speaker at Rear Right. I would have a dedicated amplified for these two channels.

Im not sure whether Win 7 can route a specific apps audio stream to a specific output so that I can attach that output to an additional amplifier, as mentioned above.

All audio for this computer is routed through a MOTU 828 firewire interface (used because of its low latency). I have available and unused the 5.1 soundcard onboard my Asus mainboard that I could route audio to. But the question is where to do that routing for the App stream i want to send to a different set of speakers.

Can I with Win 7 Soundvol mixer assign a mixer strip to a different sound card or would I need a replacement for Soundvol? With recording software you can specifiy a particular track be outputted via a particular channel or particular device. I guess thats what Im trying to do without having to run a full blown DAW mixer to do it.

I tried Chevolume, and while I could assign certain apps to specific devices, sometimes I couldn't. In those cases I had to make the change from within the app itself. A couple of them gave me that option. And, I am not able to pan L/R for a specific app, so not sure that Chevolume is the answer. I emailed Chevolume, but yet to hear back.

I used to use a program called Live Professor, and it did some routing of VSTis, I cant recall if those features would apply to just audio. I may have to download it and play with it.

However I solve this assignability and panning are fairly important. Just having the one app on the secondary sound card has made an immense difference.
