OK, I tried to make the title as descriptive as possible. This is going to be a lengthy post.

I recently upgraded my internet at home. Used to be with comcast @ 150mb/25mb, now am with ITV3 fiber direct to house @ 300mb/50mb The fiber goes to their FOT "modem" then gives ethernet to two TV boxes and 1 computer/router/data line (whatever you wanna call it)

The Ethernet for data is connected to a netgear R7000 nighthawk AC1900 router. Also tried to resolve problems by using a netgear R6400 AC1750 and an ASUS RT‑AC66U AC1750.
One of the gigabit ethernet outputs from the router goes to an 8 port gigabit switch (I tried 3 different models, powered, unmanaged full duplex switches) and is then distributed to ethernet jacks throughout my 3 bedroom home which the two computers connect to. 6 of the ports on the switch are occupied with ethernet cable, but only two computers connected throughout the house, I don't know if that is a significant detail although I don't think it makes a difference with a switch correct? like it won't lose signal strength or whatever by having cat 5e cabling connected and nothing on the other end?.
Another gigabit ethernet output from the router goes to the xbox one. All connections show 1000mbps full duplex.

The two computers are very capable, one amd (6core fx series don't remember the specs), one intel (4770k Oc'd at 4.5) , both home built, both using on board gigabit ethernet (realtek and intel i217-v) where applicable in the story. Both with light software, windows 10 pro fall creators update +any other random updates that might have came in.

the huge problem is the computers only do about 98mb/s with 4ms latency on the internet. The xbox does 325-350 easy also with 4ms avg latency. the two computers communicate and transfer files over the lan at 113MB/s (not mb, but MB)

***.

Seeing as I tried 3 different switches and 3 different routers, and the computers transfer between each other at ten times the speed they are pulling from the internet, what is the limiting factor here?

Why can't I download at 300mbit on the computers, but the xbox does it without breaking a sweat.
What else do you need to know from me to make a more educated guess on the situation?

router settings or windows firewall or anything like that that maybe the xbox doesn't have to deal with that is eating bandwidth?

I want to eliminate all possibilities before calling ITV3 and blaming them for anything lol.

Thank you all in advance.

The guess would be you have a bad cable between the switch and the router and it is only running at 100mbps. The xbox does not pass though the switch so it is not using that cable.

Since the pc can talk to each other at full 1gbit speeds it means that the switch itself, the pc and their cables are all good.

98mbps is about what you get on a port that is only running at 100mbps.

You could also test this if possible by transferring between the pc and the xbox. This should also transfer at 113MB...assuming the xbox can run that fast. I suspect you will be limited to the same 98mbps.

Cables are really strange sometimes. They can work perfectly fine on some equipment and not connect at gbit on others. It cab be as simple as a...
have you tested the internet bandwith by connecting the 2 PC's directly to the router and not the switch? if so what was the resuilt? How long are your eathernet runs? depending on run length 5e is the min spec for GigE. Have you tried moving the PC to the cable connected to the XBOXONE to see if you get the same 98Mb resuilt? I would try these two things first to eliminate any possable cable issues with the runs to the other computers.

Ok so all the cabling was done it CAT6. But you guys were right the patch cord from the router to the wall jack was bad and the router and switch were only connected at 100mb/s together. I feel like a moron. Thanks both of you for the help.
