Hey!
I have a 2 tb seagate harddrive where i have all of my important files and a while back i tried to connect it directly to my macbook in place of the internal hdd. Upon doing so there was some smoke that came from the seagate harddrive and since then it doesn't work. I've tried removing the tvs diod to rule that out but still nothing. There is a possibility that the sata cable for the internal hdd was broken. What could it be and what can i do?

Yes that is correct. But the external drive was a 3,5 "

If you saw smoke then it had to have been some sort of power issue. I know MacBooks use 2.5” drives so did you just sort of open-air connect it and boot it?

Again, the smoke means you had a short somewhere and you fried something. Try removing the controller board from the hard drive and check it for burn marks or bulging.

What can you do?
Recover your "important files" from your backup.

Was this 2TB drive a 3.5", standard desktop drive?
If so...that Macbook does not have the required voltage to run it.

Yes it was a standard 3,5" drive. Well see that was the harddrive i use to backup my other drivers and now that was the only copy.
