Hi! I just recently purchased a CPU upgrade. I have an i3-6100, and I'm upgrading to an i5-7600k. I removed my heatsink and installed the new CPU, the computer would seem to turn on (Fans are blowing, the GPU turns on) but my monitor won't recognize anything.

I re-tried my old processor, the i3, and my computer boots without a problem. Was I given broken processor? Or is there something I'm missing? From what I've understood, replacing the CPU should be a fairly easy process.

My other specs:
GPU - Nvidia GTX 1060 6gb
Motherboard - GIGABYTE GA-Z170-HD3P
RAM - 8GB (2x4)

This worked! Thank you! Apparently my BIOS was on the F5 update, and needed to be at least at F20. But now my computer won't recognize my graphics card. I'm worried something went wrong with the BIOS update.

That was the weird part. I did just that, I first tried to install the drivers and it would say the installation failed. When I tried to access the Nvidia control panel, it didn't work and I couldn't run the GeForce Experience.

I tried uninstalling the Nvidia Driver from the control panel, but I would get a similar error that the Uninstallation Failed. It then had a list of programs that said "Was not selected" or "Was not removed".

At this point I stopped for the night, and figured I would work on it again when I got home from work tonight. It seemed weird to me that both the installation and the uninstallation would fail.

Did you try Display Driver Uninstaller? Use that and boot to safe mode to uninstall the existing drivers.

I used the DDU to uninstall all the Nvidia graphics drivers. When that didn't work, I used this support file -- http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4223 -- and completed EVERY step. I made sure the Nvidia services were not running. I removed the registry keys. Tried to reinstall. Installation failed.

I tried to clear the CMOS. I opened up to my motherboard and connected a screwdriver to the two small prongs that say CLEAR CMOS in the user manual.

Rebooted, tried to install the nvidia drivers. No success.

My monitor is connected to the GPU, and the lights are all on. Any other suggestions? I'm growing desperate.

I've been working with my IT guru roommates, and ultimately we just re-installed windows. It was unfortunate, but we didn't know what else to do. Good news is, the GPU is recognized and I have google fiber so redownloading all my programs won't take terribly long.

I still don't know what the problem was, but apparently redownloading windows solved the problem.
