Hello all! im actually looking to see if its worth it to make some major uprades to my comp. Currently this is my build


CPU
Intel - Core i7-5820K 3.3GHz 6-Core Processor

CPU Cooler
Corsair - H110i GTX 104.7 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler

Motherboard
MSI - X99A SLI KRAIT EDITION ATX LGA2011-3 Motherboard
Memory

Corsair - Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory

Now im actually looking to get a 1080ti soon but my question is would a Intel - Core i7-7700K 4.2GHz Quad-Core Processor be better for the build because it is currently on sale for black friday. and or should i add more ram. The overall goal for this build is to be able to play all games max settings reaching over 60 frames. Would just upgrading my graphics card be enough? I just really want to know what should be the necessary adjustments to achieve the full benefits of having this montior Acer Predator Z301C 29.5-inch Curved UltraWide FHD (2560 x 1080) NVIDIA G-Sync Monitor, 200Hz, 2x3w speakers, HDMI & DP. Anything helps, thanks guys.

A 7700k would be a better gaming chip as your current i7 is more for editing and rendering. You would need to accompany your 7700k with a new motherboard, however, so factor that into your cost to upgrade.

That being said, if you’re going to spend money on upgrading then why not choose a Coffee Lake i7? I mean, the Kaby Lake Series ends with Z270 and you’ll be stuck there until you buy a whole new set. At least with Z370 you’ll have an upgrade path set so as to not have to buy a new motherboard sooner.

Also, the 1080ti would be a pretty big improvement over the 980ti. While yours is still a really potent 1080p gaming card, the 1080ti will hold out longer than your Maxwell chip will for future use.

You wouldn’t need to upgrade to a 7700k unless you really wanted more perfomance. As is you’ll reach 60fps no problem with just upgrading to a 1080ti. There’s no need to upgrade your RAM right now either, 16GBs is fine.

Use your current memory, case, drives, and whatever else you have as the rest of your system is fine for 1080p gaming to include your 980ti. If you simply can’t push your budget over what the 7700k costs then you’ll be just fine going that route, too. It’s all about money! Spend it wisely and however you feel comfortable.

Start with the graphics. Most titles tend to be more GPU- than CPU-bound until the framerates get ridiculous, so find out where you get with just the 1080ti. Who knows? Maybe your platform will carry you until Cannon Lake or Ryzen 2.

No. Not worth it. You'd actually be downgrading from 6core/12thread to 4core/8thread cpu.

16GB for gaming is plenty.

Your current GPU is still very capable. What fps are you getting with it?
