GPU severely overheating.

Hi all!

Have a problem with my HD6970 GPU that worked normally until today.

First my computer crashed after about 5 minutes of usage (browsing). Black screen with vertical lines followed by a reboot. Then the same thing happened again after another 5 minutes of browsing (except the color was different).

It hasn't rebooted again after that (4 hours+ at the moment) but I started to observe the GPU temperature and noticed it starts severely overheating when activity of the card increases. After I ran a game the temperature went as high as 91C!

The strange thing is that the GPU fan (that works fine) doesn't turn itself on like it usually does when the card is overheating (which is normally only when the card isn't clean). Furthermore when I manually increase the fan speed it doesn't change the temperature at all. I lowered the GPU clock settings by 200Mhz to 680Mhz and it doesn't help either.

Does anyone recognize these issues? Is my card dying or is it something like thermal paste which can be fixed?

I'd like to add that my case is huge, clean and cool, PSU is powerful and my computer has worked perfectly for almost 6 years. Thanks in advance!
