Hello guys! I'm doing research on making a new rig and after a week of reading reviews and stuff, I still can't decide on motherboard and case (Hopeless, I know)... I'm kindly asking on your opinions.

The parts I have decided are the following:

CPU - i7 8700k
GPU - Gigabyte GTX 1080 G1 GAMING
SSD - Samsung Evo 500GB (Taken from previous build - Might upgrade later to 1tb)
HDD - WD Gold 6TB
RAM - Corsair Vengeance LPX 3000 1x16GB (And slowly buying more when prices drop)
PSU - Seasonic Prime 650W Platinum or Titanium

CPU Cooler - Noctua D14 (Taken from previous build)
Optical Drive - Asus BC-12D2HT Blu-Ray

The rig will be my main PC. I will mostly use it for gaming (Steam) and emulation (Dolphin, PCSX2 etc.) and some hobbyist music production work (FL Studio, Cubase)
I'm also somewhat interested in trying out VR.

As for what I expect from a motherboard... My budget here is max about 300 euros. I want somewhat begginer friendly overclocking options and overall reliability. In the beggining I wanted to get an ASUS MAXIMUS HERO X, but I saw some people complain of weird voltage issues after a BIOS update even when not overclocking and got a bit scared.

As for the case, I really want to go high quality here... I'm willing to spend max 200 euros. Something sturdy, with great build quality that won't bend or break. I also want great airflow and don't really care about RGB or windows, though a small window on one side would be cool. Quality is more important though. Excellent cable management options are a plus too.

So what do you guys think? I want this build to last as long as possible, it's more of an investment and I'm willing to pay more for quality and peace of mind.

The case really depends on what you like.

Heres the Fractal Design R5. Its made of sturdy metal and has plenty of room for air flow and cable management. It features some new patent pending design where you can prioritize air flow or sound reduction. Also, it has an array of options for the window.

Here's a review from linus tech tips.

You may even be able to spend that other 100$ and get a 1080 ti if you'd like.

Oh, a friend suggested this one to me. I was afraid it did not have good enough airflow becuase of the dampening materials. I didn't know you could remove the top. I've read some more reviews now and most people are satisfied with it. It costs about 40 dollars more in Greece than it does at Newegg though. I'm so jealous of USA prices!!

I initially wanted to get this card:

But in Greece, it costs 1045.60$. )-:
The G1 1080 GAMING costs 686.82$ for reference.

Hy, from what I read the Gigabyte Z370 Aorus Gaming 7 mobo is great and is easy to help you with overclocking. For the case, I really like NZXT because of their build quality and good cable management options. I myself have the S340 elite ($100) and it's great, but if you want to fit in that optical drive I would advise a case of the dark base pro series of Be Quiet. Hope that I could help and have a lot of fun with this beast of a computer.

You might want to go a bit lighter on the CPU to save some extra money if you really want a 1080 ti.
If you get the i7-7700k it should perform almost the same with gaming but I'm not sure with rendering. If you want to change it for gaming, you should see about a 30% difference in the fps of games if you chose a 1080. Keep in mind you still want to do emulation.

Yes, this looks good. I'm currently between that one and the HERO. I'll probably go with AORUS though to avoid the HERO voltage issues...
Well, the Be Quiet case looks great but to tell you the truth I'm a bit unsure about the logo in the front... it is a bit silly, hahaha..."Be Quiet!"... That's what my gf says when I go too loud with FL Studio!

I wanted the 7700k at first but decided to go beyond for future-proofing. I'm not doing rendering and stuff now though I'm thinking of starting a Twitch or Youtube channel in the future.
Plus I think the 8600k would be better for FL studio but the 7700k can probably handle most of my productions too.
Emulation as far as I know is more CPU-dependent isn't it?

As far as I know, particles and effects are more graphically based but video, and encoding are all more CPU based. Also, if lowering your CPU power means getting a 1080 ti. It will be worth the difference especially since the 7700K shouldn't perform much differently with light loads on emulation.

I see! Thanks for the suggestion. I'll consider this. But what motherboard would you suggest for the 7700k?

Sorry for the late reply but I'm not very informed with motherboards. I would suggest doing some more research.
