Now for those of you who managed to get it working too, would you kindly please tell me in details and in simpler terms? Jungstar summarized the whole process but being someone new to PC building like me, half of it only made sense.

I managed to install an EVGA 1060 single fan SC 6GB into my HP Pro 6300. And it works!
1. It was the only 1060 GPU I could fit, as longer cards would hit the CPU cooler.
2. Most likely your i5 + GTX 1060 will never use more than 220W (see example here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KyMlMgMIrL8)
3. I would be more concerned with AMD 470 - 580 etc that get closer to the 280W - 330W (https://youtu.be/mIpOx8YUXuU?t=7m14s)
4. As several people have commented in this thread that the PSU is 320W of continuous use and a good quality one from Lite On with 90+ rating. (87/90/87% efficient @ 20/50/100% load). This means that it can power a GTX 1060 with no problem!
5. I pulled power from one of these bad boys adn stole the STAT power from a missing HDD and the DVD. (https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-SATPCIEX8ADP-6-Inch...)
6. You might need an extender.
