I'm in a pickle. I'm using a home-built Gaming PC that can no longer run games such as overwatch and PUBG when it used to be able to run these games on the highest quality. I've attempted to update my driver for a AMD Radeon R9 280 graphics card, but it responds with my build is incompatible? Here are my stats.

Microsoft Windows 10 Pro
x64-based pc
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4670 CPU @ 3.40GHz, 3401 Mhz
8 Gb Ram

Any information past that i can personally provide, however im relatively new to managing and optimizing my own PC. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Make sure Windows is up to date. Recent GPU drivers for Windows 10 require you to have the Anniversary update installed in order to install the GPU driver. If somehow you are still on the initial launch build of Windows 10, that would be why it says your build is incompatible.

ok sounds good, ill try it and get back to you.

Are you getting the latest driver for the R9 280? I think AMD calls them the Relive drivers now, so if you have a driver installer saying Catalyst or even Crimson, that might be an issue. When it tries to install the driver, does it say your Windows build is incompatible, or does it say it can't find compatible graphics hardware?
