Which card would be more powerful?

The MSI GeForce GTX 1060 AERO ITX 6G OC

or
The MSI Radeon RX 580 RX 580 ARMOR 4G OC

Mixed feelings..

1) In theory, the RX-580 should do a lot better, relatively, as time goes on and its architecture is optimized for, but

2) NVidia tends to have better driver support. In fact, I've heard relatively more claims that the RX series is having issues than on the NVidia side.

Now more than 4GB not being needed is mostly true, though it's impossible to predict that over the next few years.

So if the price is similar I'd go with the GTX1060 6GB.

Here's a modern comparison too:

They are actually closer to EQUAL if we compared cards with the same OC and cooler. Again, the RX-580 will do a little better in some modern games, and the GTX1060 fairs better...

They are both pretty similar. You should just grab which one cheaper. I owned both 1060 6Gb and 480 4Gb and they perform very similar. The problem is i gor 1060 for $340 while 4 months later i got the 480 with only $200. So huge price different. Don't worry about 4Gb, it will never limit the performance as 480 and 1060 is not powerful enough to be able to run setting that need more than 4Gb.

Performance is similar, some game 1060 wins, some other RX 580 wins, especially in DX12 titles. Pick one which is cheaper. In my country, GTX 1060 is cheaper, so i pick it

Well, there goes the theory that 4GB is enough... not true.

"At 1080p, we're seeing 53FPS AVG on the 8GB RX 480, which is a 14.5% increase over the 45.3FPS of the 4GB card. The difference is noticeable for more reason than a strict average, too. The 8GB card runs at 32.3FPS 0.1% low 53FPS average, and the 4GB card falls to just 25.7FPS 0.1% low – or a 25.68% increase for the 8GB model. This is noticeable in play, where we see significantly more frame tearing on the 4GB card, resulting in choppier perceived movement and necessitating a settings reduction to achieve better frametimes. 1% lows are also separated by a 25% difference.
There is a clear advantage for the 8GB cards in Assassin's Creed."

Chances are it didn't need more than 6GB, but it sure needed more than 4GB.

The FPS increase is mainly due to the faster memory on the 8GB
"GDDR5 speed, for instance, operates at 7Gbps on the reference 4GB model, as opposed to 8Gbps on the reference 8GB model"

I have the MSI RX580 Armor 4GB OC'ed to 1450/2000 up from 1366/1750. I I can say this is an awesome card, I only game at 1080p as I only have a 1080p/60Hz monitor but I can MAX out any game I am currently playing. I have not seen lower than 60fps while I game, I currently play BF1, GTA V and COD WW2.

actually if you do your research the truth is Nvidia is actually the company with the horrible drivers and issues with gpus as a company compared to amd throughout history. Most ppl don't know this because Nvidia tends to blame everyone but themselves whenever there is a issue. There is tons of videos and documentation supporting this and I would go with rx 580 being that more things use dx12 and will going forward and Vulcan as well. You may play those titles now but being that we all can't predict the future best we can do is prepare for it!
