like i said in the title
whenever i play games (especially fortnite) it gets super unplayable cause my cpu thermal throttles non stop so it keeps dropping from 60 fps to 30-40 fps
but when i decided to stresstest it to check the temperatures i noticed that it never thermal throttled
i did have a max high temperatur of 80 degrees, which is a bit to high I think?
i have a laptop with an i7 3630qm with 8Gb RAM and a gtx 880m
i already reapplied thermal paste on both my gpu and my cpu but it didn't really solve my problem
maybe because i put on a bit too much or not enough, or maybe i didn't screw the heatsink back on evenly
I really really need help cause i tried so many things already
the thermal throttling doesn't happen as often when i disable turbo and put maximum proccesor state at 80%
but i just want to be able to turn on my turbo and max proccesor state on 100% so i can enjoy the best out of my games

Solution
does the laptop share its heat pipe/rad across the cpu and gpu? (the same rad cools both)? the gpu could be causing the cpu to bottleneck hence making it run hot.

only the latest games (like overwtch) use threads, you could disable the threading of the i7 in the bois as a possible small quick fix?

the minimum requirement for the game is i3, this leads me to assume that the game does not hyperthread and is single core locked (runs on a single core) - which could be why your laptop is cold, but a single core could be overheating. HWMonitor could confirm this if you have it installed.

does your stress test run the cpu and gpu at the same time? heat migration could cause excess heat build up when playing games.

laptops almost always use a heat pipe + rad/fan combination, check to see if the pipe has damage or discolouration ... black = dead. note the copper colour will be black, ignore paint. (dead doesnt mean complete failure, it means it has degraded and so heat disipation will be much less, causing overheat).

buy laptop cooler stand .... these have large fans which will help cool the underside of your laptop.

i already have a laptop cooler stand, litteraly my laptop feels so cold all the time
and no it's a stresstester that can only do cpu or gpu stress test at once
but my gpu never goes above 50-60 degrees

also when i opened my laptop a few days ago to reapply my thermal paste i didn't see anything black on the copper
