I am buying a second router which has OpenVPN support to connect wifi devices to it that need a VPN. Can I just connect the second OpenVPN router to my main router and just change the IP address of it? I know this will put it on another network. Is there anything else I need to do or be concerned with? I assume I connect the WAN port of the second modem to the LAN port of the first one.

That method tends to be the simplest method of running a vpn router. Your open vpn router will think of your main router as its ISP. As long as you keep the wan and lan ip from conflicting it will work very well. The only part that would cause you a issue is if you wanted the vpn router to act as a server..ie you wanted remote access into your network from the internet. Outgoing client vpn will just work especially with open vpn, IPSEC needs special support on the main router.

Any other specific router settings I have to set on either router? I am just going to use the VPN in client mode on the second router and connect to it wirelessly. The first router will be set to ip 196.168.0.1 and the second 196.168.2.1 or something similar.

Okay, I should receive the router tomorrow so I can try it out. It is An OpenWRT one that is primarily meant for travel but is inexpensive. Hopefully it'll be okay. I'll post further questions if I run into issues. Thanks.
