GTX 1080 Keeps un-installing it’s drivers??

So I got a GTX 1080 last week and it ran fine for the first two days, then after that it would randomly shut off and refuse to turn back on for at least another half hour. Now it has gotten worse and the Graphics card keeps un-installing it’s drivers from GeForce experience and turning everything large black and white and instantly crashing my game. After I then re-install the drivers it works fine for maybe another hour before doing the exact same thing.
Currently running an i5 processor with GTX 1080 a ASROCK Z97 Motherboard a Kraken X42 CPU cooler with 16GB Ram and a 650W PSU.

That doesn't sound like "uninstalling" drivers .

What GPU did you have in there before? did you fully remove any prior GPU drivers before installing the 1080 (even if it was another nvidia card)?

Which "650W" PSU do you have specifically? Model number?

I had a Geforcd GTX960 in the PC beforehand and I did swap them around and it was fine so I’m not too sure. The only reason I say it would be uninstalling the drivers is because it allows me to re-install them every time and then it fixed itself instantly and is fine to play again.
The exact PSU i have is a Corsair CS650M

I don't believe nvidia's drivers will stop you installing if you have the current drives installed..... although IIRC, it does prompt you.

How do your CPU/GPU temperatures look when this occurs? Perhaps you're experiencing overheating?

Is the card OC'd?

If temps are in order, I would suggest removing all GPU drivers with DDU in safemode, then rebooting & reinstalling.

The CS650M is not the greatest PSU in the world. In theory, it *should* be fine.... but in practice, it's not the most stable unit.
The TDP difference between the 960 and a 1080 is only ~30W (150W vs 180W), but that might be enough to tip the PSU from "stable" to experiencing this.

the GPU has never been overclocked only had it just over a week, and from what I can see on CAM the temperatures all seem to be stable around the 61-62 degree mark on load and never any higher. I just tried DDU and will have to wait to see if it’s had any effect at all on the situation but thanks for that because I’ve never heard of DDU before looks like a useful tool :)
Hope it isn’t the PSU spent enougjnthis month on it as it is :(

Forgot to mention which I probably should have that the computer will always turn itself back on after I shut it off almost instantly and this has only started happening after I installed the 1080

If you've tried to re-install drivers and it doesn't help....

If you've tried putting back in the older GTX 960 and there is no problem....

If doing a clean sweep of drivers with DDU also doesn't help....

Then you're left with 2 things.
1) The GPU is faulty
2) The PSU is problematic

Only way to know for sure is to test the GPU in another computer that has a proper power supply or try another power supply that is capable of running everything in your build.

okay so today I re-tried DDU and it seems to be running okay and not shutting down like it used to but I’ve now encountered the problem that whenever I’m playing a game the screen goes black, as if the HDMI cable has lost connection to the monitor (tried 2 different Cables) and as the Screen goes black the fans come on at 100% on the GPU and I can still hear sound from the game I’m playing.
I then have to restart the computer completely to get rid of the black screen which is super annoying, it does it ever half an hour :/ any advice on what steps to take now?
