Hey guys,

here are 2 models of the GTX 1080, these are the cheapest I could find atm on germany which one do you guys think I should buy?

#1 is the GALAX GTX 1080 EX OC $506

http://www.galax.com/en/graphics-card/10-series/galax-geforcer-gtx-1080-exoc.html

Product Type: graphic card Graphics
Chipset Manufacturer: NVIDIA Graphics
Chipset: GeForce GTX 1080
Total available graphics memory: 8 GB S
lot: PCI-E 3.0x16
Graphic clock frequency: 1797 MHz

#2 The Zotac GTX 1080 Mini $508

https://www.zotac.com/us/product/graphics_card/zotac-geforce-gtx-1080-mini

Product Type: graphic card

Solution

Zotac is 100% a Budget GPU. sorry to break it to you.

GALAX in this case is as I said "Both are Low-Mid price budget cards", You can see this refers to price. It's in Zotac's price range. does it look like it comes with the flash of ASUS STRIX...

The Vote would be to the Galax GPU.

1The Graphics clock frequency is quite a bit higher on the Galax card which would give it an edge in performance over the Zotac card (which is really the main deciding factor here)
2Both are Low-Mid price budget cards which are both very reliable
3also, Looks like the heatsink May be a little bigger on it (but from pics hard to say)
4you get some LEDs with the Galax

Zotac cards don't have a great reputation for reliability. I don't have experience with Galax here in the USA, but I've read that they are good. My advice is to buy the one with the best warranty, but leaning toward Galax. I bought my Gigabyte Aorus 1080 Ti Xtreme not only for its performance, but because it came with a 4 year warranty (after registration). A comparable Zotac only offered a TWO year warranty- quite the difference! Warranties are important in this price range. :)

Last time I check GALAX was a premium brand, They sell less cards then the big guys. They have amazing customer service. I highly recommend this brand.

I didn't bash either company, I stated the facts.

The least expensive Zotac GTX 1080 at Newegg USA is $539. There are nine other cards being offered for less money, including models from brands EVGA, Asus and MSI. The highest priced Zotac 1080 is $699; there is only one Asus model that is more expensive. A "budget" brand it is not.

Your statements are called opinions, not facts. Sorry to break it to you, but they didn't hold up under examination.

Yes, I would absolutely go with the Galax model, personally.

Take the GALAX card, it offers better performance at the same price.

=======================================================================================

9 other cards (some are there because they're on sale, good try)?

I guess you don't know what REFERENCE models are (complete garbage)... As well as BUDGET cards from other manufacturers are, YES there are other cards which are in a pile of REFERENCE MODELS (google this), and there are LOW END cards of other manufacturers, NEWEGG USA? yeah, there are ASUS, MSI and GIGABYTE. ALL of which have HIGHER END models costing MUCH more. EVERY company has LOW end products. That's how they stay competitive. There's no way to argue that the Zotac mini is not a budget card because there are a few before it, especially when you look at what those are. You wish to say that Zotac is not budget? Well.. all you have to look at is it's counter cards from it's competitors and you'll see that it IS a budget brand.

Video Card: Zotac - GeForce GTX 1080 8GB Mini Video Card ($499.99 @ B&H)
Total: $499.99

BOOST CLOCK
1.76GHz

Video Card: Asus - GeForce GTX 1080 8GB ROG STRIX Video Card ($499.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $499.99

BOOST CLOCK
1.83GHz

Video Card: MSI - GeForce GTX 1080 8GB GAMING X 8G Video Card ($514.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $514.99

BOOST CLOCK
1.85GHz

=========================
You wonna tell me that you would still choose ZOTAC?
=========================

And since you are so bent over Zotac (maybe cuz you have one). We are talking about Zotac MINI, every single time you see "MINI" in product description, it's always because it's a low end product of that model (not saying it's a bad product). If you look further, Zotac offers OTHER cards, oh.... really? We have an AMP edition of zotac 1080? why? cuz it's a HIGH END 1080 from zotac, costing nearly 100$ More.

Your argument is a waste of time, this is where the brand stands, nothing more or less.

Something tells me English is not your first language, so you're understandably confused.

The word "Budget" means that something is low cost, or "inexpensive". The OP is looking at GPUs priced over $500; that is not a budget price, or inexpensive for a graphics card. In fact, the 1080 is considered to be on the high-end of GPUs. Regardless of the manufacturer, a $500 GPU cannot be correctly referred to as a budget card. Zotac's card are priced very similarly to the other brands. Other than the Mini, there are currently eight non-reference cards cheaper than the lowest full-sized card from Zotac on Newegg. That means that Zotac's prices are not lower in general, and therefore, referring to them as a budget brand is incorrect. Numbers don't lie, son.

Once you've been around Tom's for more than a few days, you'll learn that the boost clock set by the factory should not be a factor when shopping, because virtually all of the non-reference cards can be overclocked to nearly the same levels and perform within 1%-2% of each other. I can always spot noobs because they base everything on mfr specs. ;)

As to your query about my GPU, I have a Gigabyte Aorus Xtreme 1080 Ti. It's right there in my profile. Speaking of which, I noticed you have not filled out your profile, so I couldn't look up your rig to see just how experienced you really are. Let's hear about your rig and your building experience.

I also saw that you only have four total posts on TH, so you're not only off to a bad start, but you have zero credentials in this community. My advice: more reading, less posting until you can offer useful input. :)

well then MR.Experienced

You wish to talk about total posts? OKAY! Since, you're so smart, we'll look at your "FACTS" as you state, they must be true since YOU say it.

And here is gussrtk, I don't boast about experience. If you want, you can judge people by their build, but in the end it doesn't make you any better than others just cuz YOU have money to throw away. Also, thanks for the irrelitive info, "son", but it seems you can't even answer 1 question. Took you days to reply, maybe it'll take you months to realize what that is.

BTW... you've only got a first tier Graphics Card badge on Tom's Hardware Forums (you know that there are higher tiers... right?).... and no other badges..... you want to talk to me about experience? don't bring anything up that you can't swallow. All of your answers are just PUKE and it's all over your face. You want to talk to me about English not being my first language? No, it's not my first, and it's not my second. It's my 3rd. And I know 4 languages. You think that you are Superior just because English is your first language? You haven't even gotten out of your diapers, Life is gonna hit you like a truck, followed by a bus, T-boned by a train. It's a "community forum", put your input, don't try and put it in their face, it's just a decent thing to do. OP can choose from answers he gets to his post. You want to bring other posters into it? Here you are, FIRE. Sorry that I know 4 languages, Sorry that I can actually hold my ground, And sorry that you don't have what it takes to be married. You don't know anything yet, It'll come, slowly for you.

And by the way, the answer is still the GALAX card. Just because a GPU is a GTX1080 doesn't make it high end in it's class.

Thanks for coming out, but this is the end, regardless of any further comments.

Oh boy, kiddo. You're easier to manipulate than a puppet. I definitely won this round. He who resorts to personal attacks loses. Is your keyboard still intact?

I have a 1080 Ti because I can. "...sorry that you don't have what it takes to be married."
Translation: "My master won't let me get a 1080 Ti". Is that why you don't want to talk about your system? You see, some of us give answers based on actual experience, not what we've read on other sites. That makes you a poser.

Four languages is great... and it also explains why you never got around to studying math. But I'm in a forgiving mood, and you seem a bit fragile emotionally.

"And by the way, the answer is still the GALAX card." We know, because I already answered that a few posts ago to the OP- while you were nerd raging at me.

LOL. The warranty is very important. It was one of the deciding factors for me when I bought my card. Hopefully you'll have years of trouble-free service from it. Sorry for the "lively debate". ;)
