Windows XP doesn't show correct amount of Ram

I have a desktop PC with a BIOSTAR MCP6PB M2+ Ver. 6 motherboard and a pair of G.SKILL F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ, DDR2 800 (2 x 2GB) ram sticks installed, running Windows XP Pro w/SP3

All is working well, except in Windows Task Manager, it only reports 2.96 GB of Ram. Yet, in the BIOS, it shows the extended memory as 4159488K.

Does anyone know why this would be? Am I actually utilizing all 4 Gigs or is something not setup right in either the BIOS or Windows?

The motherboard has two ram slots which can each accept up to 2GB of DDR2, and supports Dual Channel memory with a matched pair like these.

Okay, I guess that explains it. It's XP Professional, Version 2002, and doesn't say 64 Bit anywhere under system info, so I assume that means it's 32. I guess that's that, unless there's a fix for it, or a free upgrade to 64 Bit. Not a huge deal, I suppose. I only keep it running so I can use a few of my older programs that won't run on 7, and I have a Sharp printer/scanner that still works great but Sharp apparently didn't feel the need to issue updated drivers that work with Windows 7, even thought the website says they do. Really aggravating.

Anyway,
Thanks for the heads up, Mike

So, you're saying that I could do an upgrade using a copy of XP Pro 64 bit, and I wouldn't need to purchase a whole new authorization key?

Is that something that can be downloaded somewhere, or would I have to find someone who has an old copy?

I'd stay away as it says Microsoft Windows XP Professional 64 Bit with service pack 3

there was never SP3 for XPx64

And also it says the minimum CPU is a Pentium 3 which was not 64 bit.

Additionally x64 edition was photoshopped onto the front of the box...the real box would also say x64 editon on the side...
