Going to be buying a 1TB SSD to store games and to move my os onto it in the future. I just wanted to know if there are any other steps required in setting the SSD up apart from the obviously plugging it in with a sata cable. I built my pc myself but I am not very experienced.

Additionally, I am going to upgrade my RAM and my monitor. With the RAM, my motherboard supports 32GB of ram with 2 slots. Currently, I am running 8GB in a single slot. Should I get 2 x 8GB RAM sticks to replace my current one or can the RAM sticks be mixed and matched and I can get another 8GB from a different brand and fill the remaining spot? With my monitor, I would like to use my old one in a dual monitor setup, and will this require much work apart from plugging both into the graphics card.

Appreciate the help in advance.

EDIT: As I am in Asia and at school, please bear with me if my replies are late. Thanks

if you do not need the OS installed to the SSD then it is plug and go as you think. if you need OS on the drive, message says in the future, it gets murkier.

mixing RAM is a gamble. call it in the air.
get a matched pair of RAM sticks. matched pair or sets are tested to be identical with no problems running together. all other modules are a gamble, heads or tails?

plug both into the GPU and tell the software what to do with it. mirror, landscape, location, etc. found in windows display properties.
