Two Questions regarding backup drives and docking stations

1. Backup - Is there a way to have two drives connected in such a way that the backup drive constantly checks/compares the two and then syncs its contents (auto-backs up anything that's new).

2. Docking Stations - Is this a valid alternative to putting your internal HDD into the case? These stations are connected via USB so does that mean read/write speeds are not the same as if the HDD was connected via SATA cable to the board inside the case?

Solution

Sure.
I do this daily, automatically.

Macrium Reflect, and have it make an Image off to this external drive.
And then daily Incremental or Differential images. This is only changes since the last Full image.
Every week or two, a new Full image, and start the Incremental or Differential stram again.

Automatic, on a schedule you set.

For instance...I have my main system to do a Full image, and then 14 days of...

An application like FreeFileSync also has a function called RealTimeSync.
It continuously compares folder pairs, and makes them the same all the time.
But this is not really ideal.

Any weirdness that happens..accidental deletion, corruption...just happens on both drives.

There are better ways to safeguard your data.
How "real time" do you actually need?

Well I'm just looking for a pain free way to back up all my date to one drive. If I have a single large drive that holds backups from multiple other drives it seems somewhat laborious to constantly copy each little change I make to the primary drives. I thought maybe there'd be a way to just press a button...^^

So, I could recreate the system as it was on any day in the last two weeks.
Or retrieve a specific file from how it was "last Tuesday".
