Hey guys,

Since a couple weeks I got an RX 580. It was not performing that good from the start so I upgraded my CPU because people told me it was bottlenecking the RX 580. I've got an i5 7500 right now. But even when I upgraded my CPU, performance was better, but still not optimal. I watched some video's of benchmark and they had for example a score of 4446 (Graphics score) on 3DMark. I ran the exact same benchmark and got a score of 4023. Why am I getting worse performance compared to other benchmarks online?

Answering the obvious question: yes, I did uninstall drivers with DDU and reinstalled it multiple times.

Thanks!

Unless something has changed recently, you can definitely run Firestrike for free with the 3DMark demo (I got it for free through Steam). Maybe not Firestrike Ultra/4K/whatever, but at least the standard Firestrike.

Edit: Looking at the Seam store right now, there's the free 3DMark Demo, as well as the 3DMark Firestrike benchmarks (categorized as DLC for 3DMark) which is listed as "Free to Play". Although if you did have any interest in buying the full version of 3DMark, it's on sale for $4.50 right now.

In addition to what he said, one possible reason is that the reviewers almost always use the best rest o the components. Fastest CPU (that too overclocked), fastest RAM, fastest SSD with lots of space, New clean installation of windows, best top of the line motherboard. Their test systems will always run better than our production systems. Due to this, even if we match the average FPS in games, minimums are almost always won by the reviewers. And, this is exactly what you see with that 3DMark score. Remember, that score is not just based on average performance of a PC. It is also based on the minimum performance of the PC.

@hellraiser06 if you look at just the graphics score (rather than the overall 3DMark score), it should depend less on the rest of the system specs. There will probably still be some difference based on CPU, maybe RAM slightly, but it shouldn't be huge.

I also notice a little bit of change when I run the same benchmark with the same rig a couple months apart, presumably from different drivers or some other software aspect. There's also some random variation, so you'll get different scores if you run the same benchmark twice in a row.

Lastly, it's possible the youtube guy had overclocked his 580 (and/or had a premium card with higher clock speeds).

Thanks, but I only own the demo of 3Dmark and the Fire Strike is paid only so I can't really compare that since I don't want to pay 25 bucks just for a comparison...
