Random Power Offs

Hi everyone.

Initially, my computer randomly would reboot, and then startup with ASUS antisurge. This happened out of no where, after no new installation, so I disabled it. It was fine for a while, but then at random points, my screens will all turn off. I then hear a windows error message, but I cannot click or see anything. Only rebooting the system fixes the problem. I updated my drivers, still happens. This usually occurs while I am playing a video game, but it seems to be completely random besides that. Is it a faulty graphics card, or psu? My PSU is a few years old, and my graphics card is only a few months old (1070). Thanks in advance!

Yes, I can get into the bios just fine. I reset the bios to defaults, but that did not seem to help at all. What happens is that I now long in, and within a minute, it triggers.

In the BIOS it still resets?

No, the bios can remain on just fine. I also tried unplugging everything except mouse and keyboard and put them in USB slots that were not used, to see if it was a usb port. No luck.

You can disable anti surge in the BOIS under advanced settings I believe.

Yes, but that does not fix the problem. When it is disabled, I still get instances where the display shuts off, and an error message sound is played in windows.

What happens if you take out the GPU and run on integrated graphics?

It doesn’t seem to happen on integrated graphics

OK, then it's more than likely the PSU.

PSU issues trigger the Asus Surge as in unstable voltage.

Okay, I’m picking up a new psu tonight, so we will see if that’s the case.

Swapped the PSU, and everything seems to be working great. Thank you so much for the help!

Great, glad to hear it.

What PSU did you end up buying?

A very standard EVGA 600W power supply, it was on sale for $30. Im planning on RMAing my 1000W one, as it has a 10 year manufacture warranty.

Sounds like a plan. :)
