I want to build a system that will handle hd maybe 4k.

The system components will be

Intel core i3 6100
Asus maximus viii impact gtx 770
G.skills trident z 8gb ddr4
Samsung evo 120 gb ssd
1tb seagate barracuda hdd.
Will this be enough for this type of system. Will windows 10 and the rest of the system be fast enough using a core i3 and an ssd?

Solution
The igpu of a i3 6100 still supports 4k and hevc so you still don't need the 770. You can even go with a smaller itx case without needing space for a full sized gpu.

But why not just stick with your i7?

What will you be using the HTPC for?

This is overkill if you are just going to be playing .mkv .mov files and streaming video from web video streaming services.

I will be using it for watching hd and possibly 4k movies. I will be obviously purchasing an external bluray dvd player to play discs. I already have that graphics card so wa swondering what cpu and motherboard combo will be good?

Don't use the 770. You'd just be using more power for no reason. Hevc will be using your cpu to decode rather than the 770 which makes it even more useless. You can just get an i3 8100 and whatever mobo you want. Only z370 is available so they're not really cheap or low end but the cheaper the better.

So i could sell the 770? So this i3 CPU will be better on its own with motherboard and ram for hd video?

Those soc are not the same arch as mainstream cpus. A celeron g is better performance and cheaper. If a new codec comes out and the igpu isn't compatible, it uses the cpu. Then you may need to get a new gpu because it's too weak. Plus something stronger can be used for other things otherwise the cheapest solution strictly for htpc would be a streaming box.

I mean basically i only use my computer for netflix and playing fifa 18 but I have started having issues with fifa like most other pc fifa players are experiencing so I want to purchase cheaper parts in a small form factor just as a work and a htpc hence why i dont want to pay much for a system so i can put money towards an xbox one x

I am well aware that the embedded SOC's are not the same as core based CPU. They are the out of order execution big brother of the old Atom architecture.

This solution does 10Bit HEVC with the on chip GPU. MB and CPU costing just $99 you will not get into core architecture at this price point. This solution will meet all the streaming needs Gavsta asked for including 10Bit 4K at the lowest price point possible and in a small package.

Gavsta FIFA will not run well on this solution this is for FHD and UHD media playback and streaming Blu Ray playback etc. but it will work for very light gaming.

Actually the system i am using atm is curently

Asus maximus viii formula
intel core i7 6700k
g,skills 8 gb ddr4

All of this is in an atx case but i want to down size to mini itx to save space

If i use an i3 6100 with an asus maximus viii impact with the current 770 that will be ok for 1080p right? Then could upgrade my gpu at a later date to say a gtx 1070 -1080 for 4k?

That is a good base for a gaming computer. i would recommend keeping your current computer and upgrading the GPU in the future.
As for the HTPC I stand by my original recommendation above. For streaming 4k and playing Blu-Ray you will see no performance gain by using an i3 over the Pentium SOC. As all work load is on the integrated IGP which support 4K and multi monitor.
When using the SOC and playing 4K the CPU load will only be 6-11%. This is the system I used for my garage computer that I use for streaming instructional videos etc but when testing it with streaming and 4k etc. after assembly that was the load I saw.

Celeron g are not soc. A g3930 is $35 and that's kaby. You can easily find a mobo for less than $50 which makes it cheaper and better performance. If mitx is a must, desktop ram will also be cheaper so in any case, it's still cheaper.
