Got spare 512gb Samsung m2 nvme ssd, but older MB has spare x16 slot running version 2 of PCIe. There is a x16 graphics card in the other slot, both slots run full speed x16. Found x16 slot adapter to m2 nvme ssd (cheapish), but trying to work out max data transfers using this setup. The SSD is capable of 3000MBs read and 1800MBs writes on newer equipment. My brain hurts trying to suss out whether the SSD will be horribly throttled. Can anyone help?

Solution
You are right. Your SSD will not be throttled, not even close.

Your M.2 to PCIe adapter plugged into the 2nd x16 slot on your motherboard will have a throughput of 8000MB/s.
Your SSD is capable of 3000MB/s read and 1800MB/s writes. Plenty to spare. Your using a very high quality motherboard even though it came out almost a decade ago.
