I'm getting a new computer today or tomorrow with a 1440p monitor (paired with a GTX 1070ti and a Ryzen 1600) and I am trying not to blow every penny I have on a monitor, so I was wondering if anyone can tell me how much better it will be to have a 144Hz monitor as opposed to a 60Hz monitor. This is primarily a gaming PC but I'm not looking for insane 500 FPS "most beautiful gaming experience ever" crap I just want it to look good and run at a steady 60FPS+ without horrifying tearing.

Another huge price difference between monitors I've seen is the panels, is an IPS gonna look significantly better for gaming than a TN?

Sorry, I'm new to this whole monitor thing, like I'm good with the actual computer end but all these extra things confuse me sometimes.

Any answers much appreciated, really hoping to shave off $200 but if it's gonna be worth the $200 to get an IPS 144hz one I'll pay it.

Hi,
As I see it: why would you even consider an IPS @144Hz which btw the best of this is also extremely expensive.

A good tn-panel for less money will do the trick.
There are no real benefit to try to run any high graphics game at this insane 500 fps that you are suggesting.

It is much better to increase the graphics quality through its game settings, than do the opposite.

For ex. if you have a monitor only capable of 60Hz or even 144Hz - try to adjust the game settings to be as near as this can handle - you will gain graphics quality way, way better.
And also: make sure to untick: sync every frames in the games Advanced graphics menu.
Use Fraps or the inbuilt games monitoring benchmark to achieve this.
