So I have an old 256gb SSD and for my new PC build I'm planning to order another 256gb SSD. The old one has Windows 10 and a bunch of applications on it. How would I move Windows 10 from the old SSD to the new one and clear the old one? Thanks

Solution

1. With your old SSD with window 10 connect to your computer to boot up, go to control panel. Select Backup and Restore (window 7), next click Create System image. Window 10 will create image of everything on your old SSD to drive #3. If you don't have extra hard drive or SSD to make drive #3 then you may want to partition your old SSD so the image can store there. Afterward, you need to do create a system repair disk so you can restore the image on your new SSD....When it is done...

Put in new SSD and proceed to run system repair disk on boot up so it will transfer image to your new SSD. Create system repair disk require a blank CD unless I am wrong.
2. If you have clone software, then you can clone old SSD to new SSD. Some SSD comes with free clone software.
I know only 2 options. Maybe others will have better method.

Once your transfer to new SSD is done and you have checked everything works, you can add to your computer and just format the old SSD, this will erase everything on old SSD.
Caution: Since you will have both SSD with 256 gig, make sure you set your computer bios to boot up the new SSD then you can proceed to format the old SSD.
