As the title suggests I have a 1440p monitor at 60hz refresh rate w/free sync. My build is only missing the graphics card. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/HgDzBP

I play games like Civ, various MMORPGS, RPG like fallout 5, witcher 3 etc. I'm not a FPS gamer. Would a 1070/1070 TI be enough to push 60fps on max settings at 2k resolution? With the possibility of upgrading to SLI in the future, or go with a lower end 1080 card? My current budget only allows for right around the price range of the lower end 1080's.

Solution
You can SLI 1070 but it is better to get 1080Ti instead of SLIing 1070s.
Multi GPU setup always has their negative perks.

BTW, I have KFA2 GTX1080 EXOC, I believe this one is today still below 1070 from other famous brands e.g. ASUS 1070 STRIX.

GTX1070 is already quite good for 1440p 60fps, GTX1080 or GTX1070Ti is the better pick tho'.
1080Ti is a bit a waste for 1440p 60Hz.

I notice your build has 7600K but mobo is H270. If you plan overclock, you need Z270 mobo. If you are not overclock, you should get Intel 8th gen CPU 8400, 6 cores, when in stock is 199 on newegg. Of course, you will need Z370 mobo but you have upgrade path.

Yeah I goofed when getting the motherboard. I already have it all put together and don't really plan to overclock the cpu or the ram anyway. Like I said, not a first person shooter gamer. I bought that cpu a few weeks before the 8th gens came out. Its something I will upgrade in the future when I decide to go to 4k resolution and higher end everything. For now I just need some answers on whether or not a 1070 that I can SLI in the future is able to handle 1440p gaming at 60hz in the types of games I play.

Yeah I think since I'm going to stick to this monitor for the foreseeable future (next couple of years) I'll probably go with a 1070 ti and when I'm ready to upgrade later on down the road the voltas will have been out for a while and probably the 9th or 10th gen intel chips. lol. I've been eyeing the MSI gaming version of the 1070 ti, just overclock it a bit and almost get the same performance of a 1080 anyway. I can't afford the higher end 1080's or the 1080ti anyway and would be a waste on my 60hz monitor.

Be careful with 1070, 1070Ti and 1080.
The prices are chaotic and overlapping.
1080 lower end already meets the 1070 higher end.
1070Ti makes things more complicated.
Make sure you do your research well on the prices from many brands and types before hitting the buy button.
You do not need those higher end, do not pay too much for factory OC, RGB mabo jambo, etc.
Just look for a decent card with decent price.

I bought my current KFA2 GTX1080 for abour €50 less than ASUS STRIX GTX1070 about 1 year ago...so...see what I meant?
KFA EXOC series is good, I had 2xGTX970 EXOCs on SLI 2-3 years ago and they were good too. No need to really get those STRIX or AORUS or whatever...unless you find good offers.

are you saying that your gtx 1080 performs worse than the 1070 Strix?
