Asking for AMD Rig under $1000 CAD

Solution

You may want to support AMD.. but you should more support your wallet+longetivity of happy system usage.

But as you asked, here is my suggestion;

The AMD 1600 CPU is a pretty nice chip (later you could add a better cooler to OC), But even i5-8400 beats it at the same price prety much

I left CPU cooler stock, no point at this budget

Mobo, something low end, decent budget/reliablity

RAM, 16gb, it's all good, better than 8gb of top tier

Storage, left you with just an SSD, you can always add a mechanical drive EASILY later on

GPU, 580 is a great choice to use on a budget system as this one

PSU, Good enough to run...
With all SSD storage. This system will be very quick.

You could also go with a smaller SSD and pair it with a regular SLOW HDD. For more storage space. Personally I'd rather one fast and decent sized SSD. You can always just pick up a hard drive for about $50 and add it later. Assuming you don't already have one you can slap in there.

If you really skimped and went with just a HDD and no SSD. You could get the 6GB GTX 1060. I think a balanced system is better. With no SSD the computer will feel slow. As the HDD will still take a long time to load everything.

This build would be a really good one. What would be the closest AMD counterpart of that rig? Thanks!

The i5-8400 outperforms AMD in gaming and most tasks. The closest would cost considerably more. You'd have to perform a max OC on the AMD as well.

I suppose a Ryzen 5 1600 at max OC wouldn't be too far off. Either would still lose in many games and most user tasks. They only do better with software which is well optimized for heavy multi-threading. Which is a very small minority of programs. Only a handful of games use more than four threads.

Case, this is still up to you... but I chose a cheaper one to allow better internal components.

you could choose some other things a little cheaper to get your case or what not else. But this here is a rounded system of what you should grab at your price.
