"System has POSTed in safe mode" if I enable XMP after BIOS update

After updating my BIOS to the latest version (3401 -> 3504) enabling XMP causes POST to fail.
If I set the RAM to 2133MHz it boots with no problems. What could be causing this issue?

I'm using:
- ASUS Z170-A motherboard
- i7 6700K
- 16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX 3000MHz DDR4 CL15 (CMK16GX4M2B3000C15).

Thanks, I'm trying to set it manually but I don't see my RAM speed (3000) in the frequency dropdown options.
Should I set it to 2933 or 3066?

Just choose one or the other, you will never notice the small difference in speed. The motherboard will not run memory at exactly 3000MHz.

After clearing CMOS the "3000MHz option" appeared again the in dropdown (how is that even possible?)
The thing is.. for some weird reason POST still fails @3000 MHz. I tried setting the RAM to a slightly higher voltage but no changes.
In the end I managed to get the RAM working @2933 MHz by setting timings and voltage manually but i'd love to know why the XMP or 3000MHz profiles are not working anymore after updating the BIOS.

Just to be sure since I'm no expert can anyone confirm that the following settings are good?

Those settings are almost spot on. Corsairs product page for this memory says the latency timings should be 15-17-17-35, which it is and since this is "double data rate" DRAM [dynamic random-access memory] the Frequency of 1467.5 MHz should be doubled to get exactly 2935 MHz. Just the tiniest bit faster than the expected 2933 MHz.

To know why the XMP or 3000MHz profiles are not working anymore after updating the BIOS you would need to ask Asus Technical Support on their website, they would be the best people to ask since it's occurring in their motherboard.
